Mozilla PH hacks Firefox OS App Days - Manila

A series of App Days celebrating Firefox OS takes place in more than 20 locations around the world. Most of these App Day events takes place on Saturday, January 26, 2013, with a few exceptions.

This program is designed and organized by Mozilla's Engagement team in collaboration with the ReMo (the Mozilla Reps program) and the Mozilla community.

Mozilla Philippines Community take part in this celebration and became part of Mozilla's history by being one of the 24 cities worldwide to host Firefox OS App Days. Its Manila leg was held at Boracay and Balesin Rooms of the Alphaland Southgate Tower last January 26.

I was one of the fortunate selected Student Reps to serve as Student Crew in this event. It was attended by 113 developers and students which are excited and curious about the Firefox OS. 

I was assigned as Social Media Updater in which contributed to Twitter and Facebook update of the Mozilla Philippines social media accounts. The Firefox OS App Days  - Manila leg was fortunate to have Mr. William Reynolds from Mozilla Mountain View (California, USA) to join the Pinoy Mozillians and Developers in this celebration. The participants presented 8 apps for Firefox OS and probably more soon to be created and published in the Firefox Marketplace by Filipino developers.

Tagalog Firefox Marathon Year-End Special

Days before we bid farewell to 2012 and say BIG hello to 2013, we, the Mozillians from the province of Bataan joined the Tagalog Firefox Marathon 2012, its last localization event for the year. It was held on Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) Prism Plaza, Two E-Com Mall of Asia Complex last December 29. I am very happy to meet fellow Mozillians specially the Team Mozilla Philippines headed by Mr. Eusbio Barrun Jr., Community Manager and Mr. Robert Reyes, Regional Localization Lead. 

One of the special guest that graced the event is Arky, Mozilla's Community Manager for Localization in which he commend the Mozilla Philippines Community for a job well done in localization effort and emphasized on Quality over Quantity in contribution.  He introduced the latest tool used by Mozilla to its technologies and content which is the Pootle. Almost 40% of Firefox has been localized to Tagalog and we contributed during this event along with other enthusiastic and awesome Mozillians. 

Mr. Robert Reyes also announce a contest for localization contributors in which they will select the number of highest contribution and will give a prize of Mozilla mini-shirt to the contributor.

Mozilla Webmaker for High School Students for 2013

With the advent of rapid development and progress of technology in every seconds, students in secondary education also have to cope up with these digital advancements. In school, high school students are taught basic computer operation such as word processor, spreadsheet, powerpoint and basic programming to give them a glimpse of the computer profession. Basic programming includes the famous HTML or Hyper Text Markup Language which is demonstrated and taught by computer subject teachers. Computer teachers aims to provide high school students with better understanding of the Web and how people develop and use it. 

In line with this, Mozilla Student Reps team of Bataan Peninsula State University headed by Cherlowe Reinard Ramirez, Student Reps Lead, will be collaborating with the School of the Madeleine in the province of Bataan. Through Mr. Bernard Dasco, Computer Teacher of the said school they will be organizing a seminar for the students in cooperation with Mozilla Philippines on February 2013. It aims to update students with the Open Source Technologies,  latest trends in the Web specifically the HTML5 and the Mozilla's Mission. 

One of the highlighted topic is the Mozilla Webmaker which is a new program to help people everywhere make, learn and play using the open building blocks 
of the web. Mozilla Webmaker wants to help you make something amazing with the web. We’ve got new tools for you to use, projects to help you get started, and a global community of creators — educators, filmmakers, journalists, developers, youth — all making and learning together. The goal: help millions of people move from using the web to making the web. As part of Mozilla’s non-profit mission, we want to help the world increase their understanding of the web, take greater control of their online lives, and create a more web literate planet.

Mozilla PH invades CICT Days 2012 at BPSU

Mozilla For Students live at CICT Days '12 at Sari-Gamit Covered Court, BPSU Main Campus

A team of Mozilla Student Representatives from Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) in cooperation with Student Society on Information Technology Education (SSITE) and BPSU College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) – College Student Council invaded its 4^th CICT Days 2012 this December 10, 2012 at Sari-Gamit Covered Court, BPSU – Main Campus, Ciy of Balanga, Bataan. The seminar was attended by the students from the CICT, as part of the celebration of the CICT Days, a project aim to promote student development in the college through series of academic and non-academic activities.

Cherlowe Reinard Ramirez, a Mozilla Student Rep gave a talk about Mozilla for Students and the Mozilla Student Reps Program. Ramirez urged students to join the Mozilla Student Reps Program as part of their professional development and networking.

The Student Reps gave lots of Mozilla Swags for those students participating in the Q&A and for all the participants. Students were encouraged to sign up for the Mozilla Student Reps program and spread the word of Mozilla’s mission through its manifesto and the use of Firefox and other products in the university. This is in line with this year’s theme for Open Source Advocacy.

Mozilla Student Reps of Bataan Peninsula State University

Mozilla Booth serving as Firefox Help Desk and Support Team

The Student Society on IT Education – BPSU Chapter in cooperation with Campus Student Council of the Bataan Peninsula State University – Main Campus held a Mozilla Booth at the Freshmen Day last June 15, 2012 at the Sari Gamit Covered Court. Freshmen visited the booth to learn about Mozilla Firefox and its initiatives. They were also encouraged to install and use latest Firefox as their browser in their PC and laptop to show support in this endeavor of the students of CICT. Those who registered as members of the student organization also received a Mozilla Firefox Keychain created by the Creative Team of SSITE. Mozilla Student Reps Team of BPSU is composed of energetic, dynamic and young minds named Cherlowe Reinard Ramirez as Student Reps Lead, Benjar Silvestre as Public Relation and Communication Lead, Jomar Villaruel as Creative Design Lead and Charlie Garcia as Technical Support Lead.

“Mozilla Firefox offers fast, flexible and secure browser suited to any individual and it aims build a better internet for the people” said by Cherlowe Reinard Ramirez, Chapter President during the short plenary talk on the event. He also reiterates that Firefox does not hurt the web by using open standards and it is innovative in our hands. BPSU Mozilla Student Reps plans to promote usage of Firefox in computer laboratory and in offices through Extended Support Release (ESR) with cooperation of the University President, College Dean, ICT Faculty, MIS and students.

Welcome Wizards! BPSU CICT College Clash 2010

COLLEGE CLASH 2010!!!
Warm Welcome from the Home of the Cyber Wizards, College of Information and Communication Technology of Bataan Peninsula State University - Main Campus.

As I enter the our university, i can see a lot of new faces and young bloods eager to know and experience the famous College Life in our campus. Just like last year, many students are roaming around the campus vicinity to find their designated rooms for first subject. Other students attended the Campus Orientation conducted in the Sari-Gamit Court in equip themselves with basic knowledge and information about the campus. After that, they found familiar faces in the campus to ask other information about the rooms and their respective instructors. I can feel their high energy eager to encounter what it feels to be in college.

As for me, it was just an ordinary but shameful morning. I came early in the campus wearing my complete uniform as i was informed. Soon I realize that only few have worn the uniform because it was the first day of class. My friend told me that uniform should be worn on thursday for old students. Immediately, i took off my uniform, fold it and put it inside my bag. Now I can feel that I do belong to this campus.

After waiting for a couple of minutes, i saw my friends finding their instructor for their first subject. I help them in finding their room and also their instructor. Suddenly I remember my mission for today to follow up my adding form to the registrar. But sadly i heard the same reason i heard when i was enrolling. I think the registrar and my college hasn't fixed this problem as of now. So i went to my first subject: English105 with Mr. Varua as our instructor. We waited in front of the Garment Production Room for Sir Nomer. Then he told us to go to sari-gamit court for some instruction and orientations. After that, i saw my old classmates and asked me if i can help them in their problem. I immediately answered their problems and assist them in doing so. It really felt good to help other people in their problems. Their pleasant thanksgiving were a blessing for me for today.
